Key West Florida; any place to hang there?????

Okay, a long shot; I have to go to Miami in a few weeks for a business meeting. I'm seriously thinking of driving down and then driving to Key West after the meeting. Here's the question, does anyone know if I can "hang" anywhere in Key West?

I would guess not but thought I'd take a stab in the dark and ask.

If you have any info on this, or even hanging in a park or forest in Southern Florida, please let me know!!!

    Thanks
    Gideon

Shoot Keyshangin a PM. He lives down there and will be able to tell you where you can hang.

IM NOT AN EXPERT ! but this is what I know..I just got back from there last week. The answer is yes, you can hang your hammock on the beach at night between palms . I saw at least one person do it while I was there. That being said you would need to remove it in the morning and keep everything on the down low. The problem is a lot of homeless people sleep on the beach at night so you would definitely be sleeping with some of those types. If you want privacy like "camping" do some research on the dry tortugas they allow camping and it's awesome. You might also want to check out some of the other lower keys such as sugar loaf key.

Keywest doesn't really have much private camping spots as far as primitive camping is concerned.

Spent 9 weeks there in my youth while in the navy, Torpedoman's school. A native Floridian and it is one of my least favorite places in Florida. It may have just been the conditions. Old enough to service my country but not old enough to have a beer. As far as hanging, no clue.

Check out the KOA campground, it's part tent and part RV there's a ton of spots in the back and it's only 20min from Key West and 30min from Bahia Honda

The place is great I definitely recommend it

I typed in a couple of dates to check out the cost for tenting ... $80.00 a night for 5 nights in June ... wow ... hard on the wallet.

    give the folks @ BOYD'S a ring

    http://boydscampground.com/

they do have some sites w/ trees, good facilities & are on THE KEY

if you need to stake anything out, take BRIDGE NAILS & A BFH(they sell the nails, @ a premium, & will loan you a hammer), the KEY is solid coral & d... hard to put a stake into

for great fresh seafood @ a reasonable $$, give THE RUSTY ANCHOR a try

    http://www.rustyanchor.com/

RUSTY'S FAMOUS CONCH STEAK is prime vitt'ls

just around the corner from BOYD'S

watch out where you park, in KEY WEST, their parking tickets are freely passed out and quite expensive

Had another thought; I'll be in Miami so does anyone know of a good tent/hammock camping spot near the ocean but anywhere within a few hours drive of Miami?

    Thanks

What! Dry Tortugas has palm trees where you can hammock camp? Overnite?!? If so, this one is shooting to #1 on the bucket list. I just can't imagine how awesome that would be. Probably be calling out for 'Wilson' after a couple of hours!
