If you really want cheap and light weight; i might suggest the fleece or other summer sleeping bags. they usually cost under $60 (many under 40) and are rated anywhere from 40-60 degrees. You could also get inexpensive down comforters that will do you perfectly fine in the summer time but still pack down small and be lightweight.

The cottage vendors produce excellent work, but they aren't the cheapest, at least when talking about summer temperatures.

i would stay away from fleece in 40* temps. it weights far more by warmth, dosen't provide any wind resistance, and dosen't compress much at all. PLTQ'S (poncho liner top quilts) weight about a pound, have a nylon shell that blocks wind, and compress to the size of a football. you get a PL on ebay for about 20$ if you look.

I don't think there is anyone who can compete with wilderness logics on price in my research. Summer series top quilt is $155 45 degree 850 full down. Also I think their shipping is free. Even if you added down it would be vastly cheaper than the other options. I have not owned one but people seem to love them.

I've used a Jacks R Better as a quilt in a tent, and as an under quilt for a hammock. http://www.jacksrbetter.com/shop/she...ngular-quilts/ Comes in a longer length for an extra $10.

Love my new Burrow but have one of these that I used last summer and it worked okay but only had a full length UQ at the time: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourcei...lient&ie=UTF-8

The green patrol bag makes a pretty good top quilt down to about 50. Add the poncho liner for another 5-10. If you cut the zipper off the green patrol bag comes in under 2lb for about $30
