Just bought a Warbonnet Blackbird, etc....

    My order:
1 x Mamba Topquilts (Mamba Topquilts: 3-season Regular)
1 x Edge (Tarp options: Olive Brown)
    1 x Blackbird (Model: Single Layer 1.1, Suspension Type: whoopies + $10)

I'm a female, 5'1" and backpack in Arkansas, Missouri, TN and Colorado mostly... Do yall think I will be ok now thru fall with this setup? I didn't get the underquilt...with shipping and everything this setup was $600!! I hope that this will take the place of my beloved Kelty tent and sleeping bag.

Nice start, but you are gonna need SOMETHING underneath you. Planning on using a pad? Pads stay put better with the double layer, but if you plan on eventually getting an underquilt, all is good.

Definitely will need some bottom insulation. Since you're coming from a tent, you can use the sleeping pad you've likely already got for starters. Try a couple nights in the yard before heading out.

I've got a thermorest inflatable pad I was using with my sleeping bag in the tent. Seems like it would shift around alot. Since I'm all new to this, and am just going off videos and pics, I thought maybe the top quilt would wrap around. Well- I will order the under quilt then. Thanks for the replies!

I used a pad for the first year . I opted for the JacksRbetter 3/4 length under quilt bc I'm only about 5 from 8 it covers me from neck to nearly mid calf and I sleep on my side so it works for me as well as a full length

Welcome to the addiction. At least you started with some of the best gear you can own. It's more than a hobby to some.

It doesn't look like you need any more convincing, but here is the rationale...The problem is that the insulation is provided by the captured air inside the quilt. Even if it wrapped around underneath you, your body weight would be compressing it and it wouldn't be providing much warmth. The underquilt doesn't get squished by your body weight, so it keeps you toasty. Good luck!
