When it all gets to be too much….

You guys ever get so wrapped up in dealing with hammock gear that you forget why you're even outside in the first place? I'm beginning to feel that way, and it makes me want to go slip my sleeping bag into my bivy, zip that thing up, and fall asleep on the ground. Am I sick?

I wouldn't call you sick, but that is a personality defect.

There are lots of ways to simplify your hammock system. I am setup and relaxing way before my dome tenting friends.
Next time you are out hanging give all your gear a good "Do I really need this? Is there a simpler way?"

Give it time and take more trips to the pineys with the hammock. It will soon become natural as you figure out and perfect your hang.
It can be over-whelming in the beginning.
Simplify and just focus on hammock, pad, sleeping bag and tarp.

My hammock gear *is* the reason why I'm outdoors overnight. I might take a tent if it's unavoidable, but half the joy of being in the outdoors is relaxing or sleeping in my hammock.

I will often, as I putz with my latest hammock, dutch bling or other such stuff, say to my wonderful wife, "It could be race cars," She smiles, she knows the master of rationalization, she married him. I find the "hobby" or whatever we want to call it, therapeutic, creative and challenging. It does get me outdoors more. For that I am grateful. The great sleep that goes with it, that's just a bonus.

Total and utter ditto, including the talk to my better half.

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.
