Backyard test run.. need some help.

So I decided to test out my new wbbb and superfly in the backyard last night rain or shine. Well I got thunderstorms..

Gear : wbbb dble 1.7 11foot . Standard superfly.. ahe split ridgeline. HH snakeskins for tarp. ( broke down and bought them)...ridge rest long. Sierra designs wild bill 20 or 30* bag. Crappy aldis inflate a pillow. (Snoring cub in the future)

Hang spot is a flag pole on the foot end and a fixed anchor off the garage. So I'm only adjustable on one side.. its not ideal for the wbbb and caused and off setting of the hammock and a much less than ideal lay. But it got me outside .

Overall it went fine made a lil fire which started dying right when the rain came in. Climbed into bed and started the read. I found it a bit hard to get a good lay with the pad where there wasn't a lot of stress on the seam which is about 3 inches long near the shoulder holding the 2 layers together. Once i had finally adjusted enough to release some of the tension on the seam, I settled in.

First off the bag was a bit warm for a low of 60* oh well a fleece bag liner should be purchased shortly.

I ended up going to the house about 4 am. The neighbors flood light kept kicking on and waking me up. Thought the sun was coming up.

Anyway here's some pics and the question I need help with at the end.

Split door opening.. outer one with shockcord and mittens... worked well.

2 improve timeouts. Originally had a run of sjockcord between the 2 ties and then a line off of the middle of the shock cord line.. but it didn't pull both pullouts correctly. So I switched to the separate lines.

Pole side rigging.. one of the microbiners bent around the pole. my own fault for not double wrapping the pole and having the binder carry the stress of a tensioned tarp. It still usable though.

I like the split line ridge. Might go with a little bit thicker diameter line and stronger binder though.

    Garage fixed anchor.

    Rigging head end.

    Peeping through head end doors.

So the issue is my top know on the head end of the hammock was soaked. And the water ran down to my shelf and got to my book.

The strap doesn't touch the tarp as you can see in the last pic.. I was actually concerned about the foot end as it was touching. But it was bone dry.

Could also be excessive water runoff from the roof was too concentrated for the Buckle to suffice as a drip point I guess.

I noticed the snakeskin had a decent amount of water on it. And when I moved it it all dropped onto the webbing.

At any rate I think those are the three plausible possibilities that would cause the water seepage.. the head end was more covered than the foot end.

What cha think? Thanks for looking

Those suspension lines can send plenty of water down to the hammock if the conditions are right (wrong? lol). While not perfect, tying dedicated drip lines helps. Check out this video of various suspension components and how they do or do not suffice as drip lines. This is not my video.

Nice video. Props to the Hammock Lab.
At 5:38 it looked like even the drip line string did not hold the flow back.

Did you try different types of string? It looked like zing it was used.

I would think a nylon string would be better as the water would adhere but flow off better.

Awesome video. Really, learned a lot on that one. I will be carrying some extra continuous loops in my kit.
