That would be something different than a Whoopie sling...more possibly like a UCR but yes there are ways to splice together Amsteel to make various types of suspension systems.

I suppose you can create two eye-splices using a locked brummel that join the ropes together; I don't know how much strength you would lose or if you can weave the two twogether properly

The proper end to end splice for amsteel is to bury each into the other (that's what is actually happening in a continuous loop) and maintains most of the ropes rated strength.

I'm not sure what Maytag is asking about unless it's a UCR as Pgibson suggests.

Don't do it man! You have so much to live for! Just think about all of the cool hammock stuff you'll be missing out on!!!

All joking aside, best of luck to you on the experiment, and I look forward to hearing how it turns out.

    - Nonsense. You only say that because no one ever has.

That makes sense, but wouldn't you need some sort of lock? When we do continuous loops we lock the loop and the bury is essentially a mix between cosmetic and a back-up.

What passes for a "locked brummel" in a continuous loop here on HF is (as far as any rope makers instructions I've found) not a proper splice and I strongly suspect greatly reduces the overall breaking strength of the loop by doubling each end back on itself and relying on the "locked brummel" (parenthesis because it's not a locked brummel) for the connection instead of the buries. We get by with it because the strength of amsteel is high enough to apparently still have sufficient strength remaining for our uses.

The proper method of making an end to end splice in amsteel blue is to bury both ends and use lock stitching to secure the splice under no load conditions. The stitching does not add strength. Samson Amsteel End to End Splice Instructions. These instructions can be confusing the the first time you look at them, but it calls for 3 fid length buries and lock stitching.
