Hiking dog Molly and I finally got on the trail after not being able to for more than a month. Needless to say that meant we were out of shape and the trail kicked our butt. The plan was to start at the Hwy 27 and go to FR78 and then turn back. Unfortunately we did not make it because Irons Fork was flooded and we could not make the crossing especially considering how the water was roaring and hiking dog Molly's lack of height. We got rained on all but the last day and hiked pretty much the entire section in squishingly wet boots. The first night we stayed in Uncle Bill Potter Shelter which is very far off the trail straight downhill(hung the hammock from the rafters). Very tough climb out first thing so you better really want to stay there. Irons Fork Creek is in front of the shelter so we already knew we may not be able to make the crossing the next day because of how it looked there. The second day we went to the crossing and turned back and hiked all the way back to Archer Shelter to stay the second night. Hiked out that next morning. Trail conditions were good when it came to trees or ice storm damage and the trail was pretty much clear of those. What it wasn't clear off was all the grasses, bushes, and thorny things hanging out in the trail. You can see a good example of how much is growing into the trail fairly early on in my Youtube video. Despite being wet the whole time, getting lots of blisters because of the wet feet, and not getting to hike as much as I wanted it was one of the funnest trips I've had in while.
