    Rainy night hamocking!!

Packed up my backpack and hiked a couple of miles down one of the trails at Lake Oconee , and spent the night. I knew there were storms coming in, part of the reason for the trip, the other to check out my new pack. 24 lbs with food, water, and all hammock gear, plus other essentials. Camped out in a hollow with small stream and was not bothered by bugs till right at dusk saw the first mosquito. Out with the bug net. Rain started about dark thirty and rained all night, thunder storms along with it. I had just dozed off when an Owl that had flown right up next to my camp let go with a very loud hoot, i bout went through the bug net. We got 3 1/2 inches of rain, during the night, but I stayed dry. still raining off and on this morning. I was prepared to spend two nights but the humidity got to me and I was sticking to my hammock and TQ so I gave it up and came home. I can stand most anything but I don't like sleeping when it is hot and humid. Tarp is pitched high so I can see but I reattached it closer to the hammock before the rain started.

Thanks for sharing. Love rain on the tarp! Yeah, humidity shuts me down right away...about one more week and I'm in a holding pattern until September!

Yeah i know rub it in. I love the dry west, spent quite a few very enjoyable days in Arizona, even in the summer was enjoyable.

Easier to stay warm in the cold than to stay cool in the heat.

I know. For me too, humidity while camping outdoors will take the fun out of it. I’d usually do it during the cooler season.
