    Cheap Down Suppliers

    Hey guys!

I've been doing some hunting around the interwebs for 'wholesale' cheap down suppliers. I'm just now getting some responses in from various US sources, and I wanted to post what I've found so far. If there is a thread out there that has information like this already, please direct me that way.

I've already placed an order through ZhongRui Eider Down (They are not selling eiderdown...) out of China through AliExpress (a offshoot company of Alibaba).http://www.aliexpress.com/store/grou...ryId=100000939
I am awaiting shipment of 1 kilograms of 95% white goose down. You can purchase in 250 gram (8.8 oz) increments at $43.70 a piece with free shipping (i imagine the shipping is subject to change). They list the 'Washing degree' at 800+ and the 'fluffy degree' 700+... so I am expecting 700+ fill power material and will be quite happy if it is 800+.

I have recieved responses from Cuddledown and Ronco Furniture.

Cuddledown (cuddledown.com) sells in 1lb increments and sent me these prices:
    700 Fill White Duck Down- 1lb: $49.76, 2lbs: $99.52.
    700 Fill White Goose Down- 1lb: $101.12, 2lbs: $202.24.

Ronco Furniture (roncofurniture.com) sent me this response:
We do sell 800 fill power 100 % Hungarian Goose Down.
The price for this product would be $95/ lb.
We can handle what ever quantities that you need.

I'm awaiting some more responses (some folks who supply DownTek! I hope they get back to me), and will post as I get them in.

I don't know if Feather Industries (Toronto Canada) should be added to your list. I think some folks at HF have ordered from them.

    +1 for Downlinens.com
Just ordered a pound of 850 gray goose water resistant for $113.40
and free shipping. The white was not much more, but I didn't feel the need.
I think they offered up to 950fp,but again, didn't feel the need.A friend
got some(850) from them a couple of months ago and it is beautiful stuff.
Adding the WR treatment only costs $6.00(included in my price above)
for the pound, well worth it I think.

Do you have a contact email for cuddledown? Or did you just select the contact us option? $50 for a lb of duck seems decent (unless someone knows of a better place?)

This is good information, thanks for posting. I am looking in to making an underquilt and I was just wondering where to acquire some down at a good price.

hk2001; the fellow who emailed me back was named Eric Cross. He is the wholesale and hospitality sales assistant.

A bit of a tangent, but still relevant.....

What am I missing as to why the goose down is double the price of duck down? I know goose down is generally better overall, but I assumed it was generally better overall, because it generally just gave more loft. But duck and goose down of equal loft, why the price difference? Does duck down not retain it's loft as well or as long as goose down when being packed in stuff sack etc?? Double the price is significant....surely there are tangible differences???

Would be glad to hear not though, cause 50$/lb sounds pretty good to me!!

<EDIT> After very minimal reading, I'm not seeing justification to buy goose down at double the price of equally rated duck down. But if there is an advantage, I'd still like to hear!! Thnx!
