0.5oz riptop: any uses?

I think that's the range used for kites...have you ever looked into aerial kite photography? It's really, really cool.

Oh boy. I was planning on making a kite with some spare 1.1 anyway, but that project might have just gotten a LOT bigger

The 0.5 Oz should be fine for a synthetic quilt as long as you use quality filling like Polarguatd, Primaloft or Climashield.

Dutch is selling 0.67 ripstop at a very reasonable price, if that's close enough to .5 for you.

I would either make a double layer hammock - which would be ultralight indeed - or an UL hammock sock. An underquilt protector would be good, too. All the ripstop I have found so far this side of the pond is a lot heavier than what is sold in the US; like 4oz or more... *sigh*

A sock could have been good but I recently made a UQP in 1oz and it seemed too flimsy and wasn't great at keeping the wind from stealing heat

I hadn't but googled it and its pretty cool. I think this is a very soft fabric for kites though (not that I know anything about kites )

Maybe flip it so the 0.5 is on the outside? I would be worried about putting the most tension and abrasion on the thinner stuff.

Could you possibly use it for DIY silnylon? That could be a really lightweight tarp....

I did make a tarp from pre made .8oz but i've been too scared to try it out properly yet; always just use my 1.something oz instead.

Ive saved a bit and hopefully I'll be able to try with primaloft as its the only one easily available here, though still has to be ordered from Germany. Its a beautifully textured fabric and would be lovely against the skin on a hot night.

Well i made a double layered out of the 0.5oz and some 1.0 or 1.1 (i cant remember which :/ )

A really simple rolled hem on all edges with a small channel on the ends to accommodate the soft shackle that stops the whoopie sliding off.

I think I was overly cautious as its very stiff with virtually no sag so I probably could have gotten away with two layers of 0.5oz, Oh well I've saved enough for a quilt so its not too bad.

Its 9 3/4' x55" and weighs 215g

The pic shows the sides haven't been tacked together yet, but ill do those in the morning.

- Ripstop-Nylon, daunendicht, ultraleicht, 7den, 22g/qm oder 0.65 oz/yd2, schwarz
- Ripstop-Nylon, daunendicht, ultraleicht, 10den, 27g/qm oder 0.80 oz/yd2, schwarz , weinrot

Abgesehen davon dass Extremtextil Ripstop meist nur in furchtbaren Farben anbietet (weder Schwarz noch Weinrot sind eine Option für mich), sind die Stoffbreiten einfach nicht für eine Hängematte brauchbar. 150cm Breite ist das absolute Minimum, und mehr ist besser. Und als Preis mehr als 10 EUR pro Meter? I don't think so. Da kann ich die doppelte oder dreifache Menge in der gewünschten Farbe und Breite in den USA ordern und spare immer noch. Meiner Erfahrung nach ist Extremtextil leider nicht für Hängematten-Projekte brauchbar.

I used the 7den for a winter quilt and is fine It's a huge pain in the butt to work with but the finished result is light as a feather. Only downside is that I keep feeling the need to be extremely careful with it because it feels so thin.

I've seen the 10den stuff, too, and wouldn't use it for a hammock for an adult. Might work as a kids' version, though.

For my kids' hammock I used their 30g/m2 parachute ripstop which feels really nice. But even there I'd recommend double layers for anything above 40-45kg (or any kid work sharp fingernails... )
