    0.5oz riptop: any uses?

So I've picked up a few metres of half ounce ripstop but I have no idea what it could be used for ?

The only thought I have is a lining material for a synthetic quilt. Its a very soft fabric but I would have concerns over being able the feel the fibres of the insulation through it; yep its THAT thin!

    Any ideas or thoughts welcome

Ah true but I also picked up some ripstop nylon with holes punched in it (another fabric I cant figure what it was made for ) that has be sidelined for my stuff sacks production line I intend for tomorrow (never enough stuff sacks !!) I also have my doubts about it being strong enough.

I made a double layer hammock with some 0.5 oz once. It worked fine if your occupant isn't very heavy.

hmm interesting; how about a .5oz inner with a 1oz outer to make a double layer for me (200lb). Not that I NEED another hammock buuut....

In the bargain bin at my local fabric store. I'm able to get all the remnants from the outdoor manufacturers in the area.

I would either make a double layer hammock - which would be ultralight indeed - or an UL hammock sock. An underquilt protector would be good, too. All the ripstop I have found so far this side of the pond is a lot heavier than what is sold in the US; like 4oz or more... *sigh*

I think that's the range used for kites...have you ever looked into aerial kite photography? It's really, really cool.

Maybe flip it so the 0.5 is on the outside? I would be worried about putting the most tension and abrasion on the thinner stuff.

Could you possibly use it for DIY silnylon? That could be a really lightweight tarp....
