    Hood needed with top quilt?

Just a question for any of you guys who use a top quilt down into cooler temps.

Do you use some sort of hood? I'm used to a bag where I can close my whole head up in the hood especially when temp is around 15-20 deg. I'm already converted to full time hanger but looking at getting quilts instead of bag / pad.

Zpacks has an item called a "goose hood"...

... looks like it would be perfect for this. Do you guys find something like that necessary? What's your experience?

Most people use/need a head covering of some kind in cool temps. I find i need one in temps 40° or below or my nose runs. Everyone has a different solution: hood, hat, snood, balaclava, buff, jumper over head etc. If you fancy a down hood then there are plenty of options... jackrbetter, lukesultralite, blackrockgear etc etc.

I have both the zpacks goose hood and a black Rock down beanie and I love them both! Depending on the temperature I will usually select one or the other. I used to just use my down hoodie, but I found that I didn't like the condensation that collected over the night and felt like the zpacks down hood was well worth the price and weight!

There's a two-layer Buff- merino on one side, and Polar fleece on the other. Last night it was about 35 here (Vermont), and it worked fine; I pulled it down around my neck, fleece side in, and then pulled the top back up over my ears and the top of m head, sort of like a balaclava. Slept like a baby. Just my 2¢- YMMV HTOH ETC...

I turn, switching sides throughout the night, so l use a hat like you are pictured in. When I turn, I reach behind my head and tuck the corner of my TQ under my neck. Works for me. A down hood would be nice though, should prevent any cold air from reaching the back of your neck.
