    Manistee River Trail

Thinking about an impromptu trip to the MRT this week to Hike & Hang. which trail head is the best to start that offers overnight parking?

Also do I need a permit for the area?

    Thanks,
    Joe

I like the Marilla TH to the north. But the one off Upper River Road on the south side is nice too - just depends on where you want to start. $5 day per car. Bing some $5 bills and put in the self-pay box. I think you can also start in the nearby campground, but the TH's seem easier. These are both technically on the NCT, but will get you to the MRT very quickly.

That's a great loop. It's nice to have two completely different views from each side of the river. While the river views are nice on the MRT side, I really like the woods and quiet feel on the NCT.

All of the trailheads have overnight paraking. Seaton Creek, Marilla, and Red Bridge.
Its a proven fact that 78.4% of all statstics are made up on the spot.

It's a great loop and the NCT side is my favorite section. The Pines on the north side of Eddington Creek is a really great spot to hang. Might be pretty crazy up there this weekend with the holiday.
