Generally, it will be the length of the bury (say 8-10") plus the fixed loop (say 3-4"), so all in, it should be 12-16". You'll add to that any length from the hammock lashing to ring/triglide/etc. (a few inches) plus any length from tree to actual whoopie sling loop toggle.

Thanks for the great detail given in your instructions. I was able to make a pair of whoopie slings in just a matter of minutes. Like the video I added the locked dead eye. I can't wait to test them out on the hammock. Now I just have to finish putting the mods on it and hang.

Wow ... so simple yet so elegant.

I just finished my first pair of 10 foot slings ... about 20 minutes. The hardest part is cutting the taper.

Now to replace the heavy poly rope on my HHExp ....

    THANKS!

I use a 10 inch nominal bury, as in the instructions, but once the bury is completed it is more like 8.5 to 9 inches. If you tie directly to the hammock with a knot you can essentially shorten the whoopie sling down to the length of that bury- say 9 inches and change. If, instead of tying, you used a fixed loop then add 3-5 more inches for the fixed loop's bury. The fixed loop is prettier, but I go for the knot.

Ive been using a 9" bury on the adjustable end, to start. It ends up being right around 8". I use a 6" bury on the dead eye, taking into account the tip where I pull out some strands. So I have an actual 6" bury at the dead eye.

The set I have on my ENO held #370 and I actually bent the pole I use (1.5" schedule 40 well drop pipe) for stringing it up, with no give from the slings. There are pics if you click on the link in my sig.

I have managed to get a set down to 16", give or take an inch. Generally I stick to around 20".

Just tried out a pair of slings yesterday after they arrived in the mail (thanks, Opie--nice work), and I'm very impressed. Simple, easy to use, never slipped once, held my 250 lb without a complaint, and super light. I think I'll be switching from my strap/ring buckle setup on my other hammocks!

i like WhoOpie slings too. put them on the BB to film my latest video. i realize they are easy to make, but there is a part of me that likes to recycle money back into the hammock system (a micro-ecomomy of sorts) and help out my brothers and sisters from time to time.
