*Note - I changed the title, also, because this method isn't Blackbird specific*
Thanks for the "thread upgrade". I was kind of wishing I had just used the "Whoopie Sling Suspension" title after I posted, but it was too late. But now- I guess it wasn't too late.

According to Samson, "Whoopie Slings have a break strength of 60% of the published average ROPE break strength". Any idea why there's such a large discrepancy? Where have people come across the aforementioned single digit estimates?
If you check the Yale Cordage pdf on making adjustable slings they say "Derate Rope tensile strength 12% when using adjustable splice" which is the number I have used. I suspect, like TeeDee and Hike4WD, that it's the "locked Brummel" that the Samson Whoopie uses for the eye that apparently derates the rope significantly more than the regular eye splice.

Dutch. We have some BPL Aircore that TeeDee purchased a few years back.

The Aircore we have is single braid and at first glance looks identical to gray amsteel.

It will work if it fits the above description.

Has anyone tried this with Sypderline? I have more Spyderline left than I do Air Core. Not sure I'm sold on the utility of an entire Whoopie Sling but this thread has motivated me to do some eye splices. Who knows...I might try a Whoopie Sling just to see how I like it. Would at least work for an adjustable ridgeline.

Spyderline only has a single dyneema strand core, with a thin polyester sheath. I'm not sure how you'd go about doing it.

Hrm...maybe I'll salvage some old hammock supports I made from Air Core then. I can always replace a normal hammock support with Spyderline.

For what's is worth, I too have been following these threads and have been trying to experiment with creating the splice. I don't have a fid or any knitting tools. Last night, I successfully used a 2' length of steel wire. I bent the leading end over so it was blunt as it was pushed through a piece of 7/64 Amsteel Blue. I simply taped the leading end of the bury (another piece of 7/64 Amsteel) to the tail end of the wire. The leading end of the bury was tapered as described in these threads. The steel wire worked very well.
