That, assuming you tapered the bury and that the bury was 8+ inches long.
Well, that's good to know. I got an ENO doublenest with a full whoopie suspension as well as a pair of JRB whoopies yesterday in the mail. I'm set on whoopies until I get another hammock. I have 38 more feet of the 1/8" amsteel too, so I plan on making a few more anyway. I did a 10" bury and tapered the end, and did a fixed brommel on the fixed loop, so I guess I might give it a try if I need to. It was a first attempt...fun stuff!

While I didnt make my own woopies, I bought them. I did finally install on my Hennesey Hyper light yesterday. They are excellent, but I think I will be forced to go to a seperate ridge line for stop tarp. Prussics hold but get in the way of woopies?

    A better mouse trap

I am new to the forum but over the last couple of weeks I have seen more videos than I care to admit to. In one they used a guitar string as a tool to pull the amsteel. I made two sets of slings this evening and the guitar sting is killer. The strings are super thin and very strong, and so easy to us.

I used some wire from my Lincoln welder. Worked great! Whoopies are the way to go. My guy lines are even whoopies.

The main dowside with whoopie slings that I have read about on here is the minimum length that can be acheived. Well I've made one with a change that allows it go much shorter.

I built the constrictor section into the fixed eye. This means the fixed eye is a bit longer than normal but means the constrictor section bends around adding only half it's length to the line (while incorporating the fixed eye length). The whoopie loop can now be adusted to the point where the fixed eye bury starts to go into the constrictor. So the overall length can get down to half the constrictor length plus half the fixed eye bury length.

You also end up with two lengths of rope for the ull length of the sling so could potetially use a lower rated rope for the same strength.

The downside is you can't larks head the fixed eye to the hammock.

Excellent tutorial. Thanks to you, I've been able to convert 3 or 4 hammocks to whoopies and made adjustable ridgelines for them.

Curse on you for passing on this addiction

To the newer folks: Welcome! and thanks everyone for the positive feedback.
Glad the whoopies are working out for you. (gd___ you should post some pics. That sounds like an interesting variation.)
