Whoopie Sling Suspension

But honestly, I just hike in my Komodosport LS. The laces are great and cinch down really easy, the shoe is comfortable without being too hot, it's super-easy to clean, and the grip on the bottom holds to everything.

They really do; I have the Komodosport LS as well. Love 'em, but haven't taken them on a trail.

I recently have purchased some whoopie slings and have been checking ways to fix it to my hammock.

I have read a lot of these posts and a common theme is to attach a whoopie sling to the hammock by using a larks foot. However I wasn't too keen on this idea as it meant the karabiners I use for my anti puddle in bottom of hammock system would be at the top end of the whoopie and exposed outside of my tarp.

My solution was to splice a continuous loop out of amsteel, thread that through the end of my hammock and clip my karabiners to that, then my whoopie sling onto those. Hopefully this way I stay dry and adjustable!

Has anyone else done this? Did it work for you?

The tail of the whoopie sling should divert drops of rain, you could always hang another string off of your suspension under the tarp if the tail end of your adjustment is too far out. Just pack some hanks of nylon cord or some extra prusiks, they work too. And it'll cut your rig weight down.

Okay folks, first of all, thanks so much for this thread and overall forum. The resources here are invaluable for hammock camping.

I just attached my slings to my HH Explorer Ultralite, and I had a noob question about attaching the slings to the tree huggers. If we're just talking about what's handy, I have carabiners handy. So when I hear you guys talk about using "a toggle or carabiner", my thoughts on using the biner are that you simply clip the biner onto the adjustable loop and then to the tree huggers.

Am I missing anything here? Doesn't that create a pretty tense point in the line there?

Don't get me wrong, I did it, I laid in my hammock, and it was fine. But I would think the wear on the whoopie slings would be increased by using it in that way. Thoughts?

If your worries about wear you could always larks head the whoopie onto the ninety using the fixed eye... That would reduce wear... But seeing how other people hang their setups I don't see wear being an issue with it... Only issue their is extra weight... Using the larks head and the just hanging the eye on the larks head seems lightest setup...
