Question: I measured 5" and 10" for the buries on the eye splices and the whoopies respectively. After burying, these come out shorter. Is that OK?

If I understand you correctly, then yes it's normal. Happens due to the fact that the outer strand of the bury gains in diameter. I shortens respectively.

Thanks! I figured that you can never exactly predict what the bury will become, but I'd rather be sure than on my butt ;-)

I use a rough estimate that a bury will shorten by about 1" per 6" of bury.

That is about what happened. Will keep that in mind for the future. I really liked working on the rope, so I'll make more spliced things in the near future :-)

What is the optimum length of a whoopee sling please? and what adjustment in length to and from do you have ?

I'd start out with 12-15 feet of line per side. I use 12 feet. I also have 6' tree huggers and can get quite a distance apart. I have more trouble when my tie points are too close.

Thanks Hornca, does that mean the piece of length of (lets call it amsteel) rope at the start? 12-15? or when its actually made into a useable whoopee, sorry if i am not making myself clear,

Sorry. I wasn't very clear. I start out with 12' of Amsteel as raw material. My finished product is ~ 5.5 feet long on each side with about 4 feet of it as the adjustable loop. I'm not looking at it currently so the lengths are just approximations.
