And Harbor Freight ratings tend to be, shall we say, somewhat inflated?

Amsteel all the way. The HF rope would be good for a demo or to practice- but trust it to hang with? I won't even walk under a HF hoist with no load for fear it would fall down.

Redden Marine is having a free shipping weekend this Thanksgiving... get you some!

    Howdy,

Not sure if someone has touched on this before so here ya go.
7/64's is approx. 2.7mm here in Australia so I was torn between 2.5mm and 3.0mm dyneema rope. I ended up with 2.5mm and after making up some "Goldberg's" I was a little worried about rope burn of the thinner line on the nylon attachment point on the Hennessey. After one hang test I opened it back up and found it had rubbed it to the nylon. So my fix for this was to cut two pieces of the original Hennessey rope approx 200mm long, remove the core and slip it over the fixed loop on the whoopie. Then tied it back to the hammock giving the dyneema and the hammock a little more protection. See below photos.

    Cheers.

Neat idea. Was wondering about the effect of small diameter rope myself a while back but never thought of this.

How long are a pair of whoopies good for? should they ever be replaced? My Whoopies are relatively new but I'm noticing some curious stuff where the burry come out, the weave of the rope isn't woven anymore there it appears that the strands go straight for a second and then go back into a weave, it's due to the burry coming out from the strands. Is that normal or is something wrong?

That sounds like how they normally look, and should be fine as long as all the strands are intact. A picture would help us help you though.

I have wondered the same thing. Do they lose their strength or do they just tear when they snap?

I just got a pair of Whoopie slings and I love them. I also have my Dutch Bling attached. I would only worry about them breaking once they start to fray.

I've been full time hanging for a year and 3/4 on a set of standard 7/64" and they are fine. I don't adjust them much as it's a static distance.
The set I hike with look like yours but I'm not worried. They still hold my 205 lbs.
