No worries. Yeah, we've covered a lot of ground in this and the other seminal threads.
You should obviously go with what feels right to you. Others more experienced than I can walk you through their own rationale for the various options. I originally felt that way about the rings but, in my limited experience, I've been well served by simple drip loops.I remain skeptical of omitting drip rings in that success in utilizing whoppie tails, knots &/or drip strings is subject to many variables and that that passive wicking may be overwhelmed in the right conditions. From a safety standpoint, I need secure knowledge that my down will not get wet.
This might not be your cup of tea, then, but I've had good results in my latest setups with a double sheet bend variant, using loops of various ilk: a continuous spliced loop, a zeppelin bend loop and, most recetly, a lanyard knot loop.I would like to avoid attaching Amsteel blue to the gathered end with a knot and prefer a closed eye w/larks head.
I'm at about that point, but I make my hammocks a bit shorter than most seem to prefer. Everything (except part of my UCR buries) fits under a 10 foot tarp ridgeline. If your tarp will fit in that 11.5' - 12' space and your hammock fits under the tarp with adequate coverage I'd think you could make it work.I cannot figure out how to keep my minimum hang span down to 11.5' – 12’ and still accommodate preference 1 & 2 above.
Hope you find what you're looking for.
