Thank you SlowBro! I made my Whoopie Slings this week and plan to give them a try this weekend. I ordered my Amsteel from eBay and ended up getting the 8 strand variety. It seems to work ok (tested in the back yard) but time will tell.

Thanks again for the write up - it was very heplful!

    No worries.

7/64" amsteel is 8 strand. The larger sizes are 12 strand. Both work equally well.

Ok, it's final. I'm going to make some whoopie slings. This is a great write-up and all the extra chatter has really given me the itch. Time to scour the interwebs for some Amsteel.

Redden Marine will take care of you. Take a look in their help section under shipping, for info on international orders. They currently have a coupon code "LOVEFISH" for free shipping, but it may not apply to international shipping.

So, I've read through this entire thread and I think I'm going to have to give this a shot.

I don't even have my hammock yet... ha!

Just wanted to share a pic of my first DIY whoopie sling
    ImageUploadedByTapatalk1360670320.456707.jpg

I have whoopies in my both hammocks but never made one.
I had 12' of amsteel blue 7/64 at home and decided to make my own whoopie, since I only had for one piece it will be my spare one just in case I break my installed ones.

    The only tools I needed:
    A pen
    A scissors
    A bit of tape

Got my 7/64 amsteel today right before I had to go pick my kids up from school. Naturally I grabbed a knife, marker, and measuring tape and ran out the door.

I have to tell ya, after working with 1.75 lash-it, working with the amsteel was a breeze! I did both of mine in about 25 minutes. Hopefully I'll get my hammock soon and be able to actually use all these things I've made/bought for the **** thing.

You're Welcome- and Thanks to Hammock Forums!

Appreciate the thanks of everyone that has found these instructions useful. Even better if you have actually made a whoopie or two. I still find them kind of amazing. The a piece of wire bent in half probably makes a better fid than the Yarn Darning Needle that I used originally. But whatever works for you is good. Hard for me to believe it has been 3 1/2 years since I posted that. Also thanks to everyone that has added to this thread and improved the whoopie. It is a group effort.

    Anyway, Happy Hanging.

I used a length of safety wire from my former motorcycle racing days. It's thin, strong and pretty cheap. Worked great. and easy to keep a small coil in the pack for emergency and/or field repairs.

I did have one question though, how much distance are you guys using between the bury of the fixed eye and the exit for the adjustable bury?
