The wire gated biners are fine as many have pointed out. I've used them with a garda hitch suspension and didn't have any problems. I've used these:

I've used full sizes wire gates at the house, and use camp nano biners in the field. The camp nanos are the size of a Wally World special, but climbing rated. I have never had any issues with small or full sized wire gate carabiners, or issues with the gate becoming the load point. Be careful no matter what you use and as long as the gear is rated for climbing use you'll be good to go

I've been using a set of solid gates with a screw lock, mostly because it's what felt safe to me when I first got into hammocking a few years ago. I now know that the wire gates are ok. I'll eventually swap them out for Camp Nanos, but I'm not in a rush as I mostly do car camping.
