1.1 vs. 1.7 on a double layer XLC

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a double layer XLC. What do I need to consider when selecting the fabric weight (1.1 vs. 1.7)? I weigh 190-200 lbs, so the 1.1 would definitely hold me. My understanding is the 1.1, besides being a tad lighter, is softer (smoother) and has a bit more give. Does it stretch to the point where it leaves permanent stretch marks, or does it spring back? Does the smoothness of the 1.1 cause you to stick to it in humid weather, or does it remain slick? Can skeeters bite through 2 layers of 1.1? This is my first hammock so I'm not really familiar with the advantages and disadvantages of the various fabric weights.

Also, are most folks ordering their XLCs with the optional top cover?

If you are thinking you might want to order a top cover, order it.
I don't believe you can buy it later.

Ripstop does feel a little "stickier" to me in humid weather when compared to 'parachute nylon'.

As long as the 1.1 is rated for your weight go with that. No need to carry around the extra weight of the 1.7 if you don't need it.

There shouldn't be any permanent stretch marks as long as you don't exceed the weight rating of the hammock.

I'm fully clothed in lightweight long johns & long sleeve top when in my hammock during warm weather so I have no experience with it but I would bet that you'd stick to it in humid/sweaty weather.

Mosquitoes will not be able to bite you thru 2 layers.

Also, are most folks ordering their XLCs with the optional top cover?

I don't know about most folks but I purchased the top cover.

My hammock is the 1.7 double layer even tho I only weight 150 pounds. My girlfriend is constantly assaulting me while I'm hanging, so thankfully the hammock can support both of our weights, other wise her extra weight would have broke it and left her feeling fat, which is never a good thing. LOL

That is the most compelling argument I have heard so far! They left that chapter out in the e-book I just read.

ha ha you try fending off a persistent frolicking female, its really hard and only makes you look like stiff who is overly concerned with gear instead of experience.

I weigh 205 and have had no issues with my 1.1 dl hammocks, find it's just about the perfect weight/comfort trade off. As posted above, my DL 1.9 only gets used when my wife and I car camp, and then it's not uncommon for us to share it for a nap.

Dual layer 1.7 hands down, Why give yourself any limits that you dont have to??

Meh, why carry extra weight when you don't have to. No experience with the 1.7, though I assume its much like the Hennessy I have. Did have a 1.1 BB and it was very breathable, not sticky at all. Don't forget that besides the weight, the 1.1 is less bulk as well - perhaps even more important to some.
