    Old...Newby to hammocks

    Hello everyone,

I have decided to come back home. Back in 1975 I would head to the mountains with my fellow GI's for a weekend outing. Only had the jungle hammock from Army issue and my space blanket with sleeping bag.

I have not done this in many years..So, here I am again going back to the great way of camping.

Any ideas, suggestion, recommendations are welcome. I did get me the HH Safari Deluxe and that is my starting point.

Thanks and Glad to be among my fellow Hammockers again...LOL

There is much info to cull thru and a number of good hammocks to choose from. My advice would be to consider any insulation (underquilts, etc.) as part of the total package.

It sounds to me you've got all bases covered. Make it easy on yourself and practice hanging it near home a few times before you take it out for real. Getting the underquilt just right might take some trial and error, but you'll love it once you get it right. At some point you might want to get a different tarp, if what you're using is the stock asym diamond tarp. If you've got the the hennessy hex tarp you've got all the room you're going to need underneath it. Those things are huge. You could hold a political convention under one.

Welcome back to the hanging gang.

    A fellow M1965 hanger also...

Be sure to get a great bottom insulation plan/system.
