They let you stow your tarp. Some find it easier and faster than a stuff sack.
I have used with my HH. I used to put up the hammock and keep it from getting burn holes form the fire and wet if raining.
Pull out of the skins right before bed to minimize exposure.
But I like the idea of the tarp in the skin, easier to setup and get deployed quickly in case of rain.
Think I am going to try this next time out.
and let you set your hammy up in the wind without chasing it across a ravine!
I primarily got a set of snakeskins so I could stow my tarp when not in use. However, they also protect your tarp from being blown around when not staked out, add another layer of abrasion and UV protection, and help you organize your ridgeline and tie-outs. The one I got from Mountain Goat has storage sleeves on each end, which is optional. I love the way you can stow your ridgeline ends in them.
I find it makes stuffing the tarp stuff sack a lot easier when the tarp in wrapped up in the snakeskins too. They are well worth what I paid for them.

I use snake skins on both my tarp and hammock, it just masked every thing that much easier
I'm not completely stupid, just "Nucking Futz"
