    Janome 612?

Hey everybody... so I acquired a janome 612 today from my mom. It seems like a pretty solid sewing machine. Cant find much info on it there is one part on it that is seized up not sure what the part is called....I guess its probably called the shuttle race. Its driven by a gear. I cant get it unfroze. Any suggestions??? Besides this it seems the machine runs very smooth!!! Although I cannot try sewing until I get this part moving. Thanks guys. uploadfromtaptalk1401151401699.jpguploadfromtaptalk1401151421259.jpguploadfromtaptalk1401151435383.jpguploadfromtaptalk1401151451165.jpg

Awsome. May I suggest lubing it with automatic transmission fluid. You can call me crazy but it is what I use. I mix 5w20 Mobil 1 and mercon dexron tranny fluid 50/50. The Mobil has high wear resistance and the M/Dex cleans. I use this on my tread injector, house door hinges and every firearm I own. It is a very good combination.

Got it running pretty smooth! Need to get some proper oil. It mix some up. The only thing that doesn't work is the dang light. Tried a different bulb still not working. Ill give ut another go tomorrow.

Yes you can suggest it just as I can tell everyone NOT to use it on a sewing machine.

Only use a high quality sewing machine oil on sewing machines. That is what their tolerances, bushings and bearings are designed to be used with and is known to be safe on the "plastic" gears over long time periods (decades). The only exception to this (for home machines) that I would recommend is Tri-Flow w/teflon and Tri-Flow Grease if/where your machine's manual calls for grease.

Save your "mix" for a bicycle chain that you don't care about.

I must confess I choked on my own tongue when I read that mixture. No way would I recommend that. Use only a lightweight machine oil designed for sewing machines. Plus a _drop_ is all that is needed. In addition... make sure you only oil where recommended by the manufacturer. Many modern machines are "maintenance free" which means they are made with preloaded, sealed oil pads that can not be serviced by the typical end user. They have to be replaced by a mechanic. One of the reasons for this is to force proper inspections and cleaning by a technician to promote the life of the machine. Also the lubricants are plastic friendly. For the old cast iron boat anchors you should just use a drop in the appropriate places.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
