    Has anyone tried polyester satin?

Howdy! Long time hanger, first time on the forums. Really appreciate all the information on here, it's a goldmine.

I'm looking to expand my hammock quiver on the cheap, and I found this site:
http://canada.linentablecloth.com/ta...blecloths.html. On sale and free shipping, right up my alley..

I'm wondering if anyone has tried any materials from this site? They have fabric weights listed as:
    Regular polyester - 180 GSM / 5.31 oz/yd2 - 60" x 126"
    Economy polyester - 160 GSM / 4.72 oz/yd2
    Satin polyester - 80 GSM / 2.36 oz/yd2

They tout the regular polyester as being their toughest, which makes sense it's pretty heavy. I feel like a double layer, satin inside and regular outside would be plenty strong (and perhaps even luxurious). Curious though if anyone thinks the satin would be strong enough on it's own?

I've done a channel end hammock in Poly Satin from JoAnn's. Comfy, strong, bulky, heavy, really cool looking dark blue color.

Nice! Yeah I figure they'd be pretty comfy. I'm hoping the pre-hemmed channel is wide enough to feed a line through...would make for a quick assembly. Thanks for the reply!

I used satin and it was an unmitigated disaster. Satin has a very vulnerable weave pattern which is what makes it shiny. It is not very abrasion resistant. In fact the hammock rubbed on a concrete floor and tore in half crosswise in the middle. Not a particularly fun ride. My advice would be to avoid satin.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

What weight was the stuff you used? The stuff I got may not be a true satin by way of the weave, but rather called satin due to the fact that it is shiny on one side, and dull on the other. Seems strong enough regardless. Not sure the exact weight, but it is heavy. Almost weighs as much, and packs as large, as my HH Expedition, which includes a bugnet, zipper, ridgeline organizer, etc.

Satin makes a nice inner layer if you do a double. Very smooth and comfy.

Yea I suppose a double layer is good insurance, easier to insulate with a pad too. Can't really complain for the price either. I've ordered a few of the satin and regular tablecloths to try out, this should take care of my diy fix for a little bit anyway..
