    Sil Argon Tarp-Thunder Shower Test

Well, we had a short thunder shower roll in this afternoon, so I decided to throw one of my Argon tarps out and see how it handled the rain. I think it did fine. Can't remember how much one of my regular sil-nylon tarps pushed in during a heavy rain, but I think I would have survived and stayed dry. Hope this helps give you an idea of how the Argon handles some good rain.

One of my corner tie out prussick knots slipped a little in the wind, but I can adjust from under the tarp, so that should not be a problem. All in all, I am pleased.

Awesome video, did you diy it? That seems like a great graphical example of how panel pulls could help a lot.

I wish you had shown the prussik knot and said how long the rain lasted.
    Thanks!

Great results! I made an Argon tarp for my son in Texas but just finished it before delivering it to him. So, I haven't seen it in action, until now

I shook most of the rain off and hung it inside to dry. Pull outs have always intimidated me for some reason, but I plan to tackle them on this tarp soon.

    Thanks!
The prussik is a small continues loop of braided masons line, larks headed to the d ring and then prussiked to a piece of zing-it for the tie out line. Sometimes these slip a little until they break in good, especially when wet. I would say it was only about 30 minutes of hard rain, so not a long test for sure. I hope to get another day to do more testing.

Glad you guys found it useful. Always nice to find things out at home rather than in the woods.

Really enjoyed your tarp test AB. I love backyard testing and do quite a bit of it myself.

I'm no fan of pullouts either.
I did a lash-it internal frame this past winter which did pretty well for snow.
Havent tried it in windy rain yet.

Well, that is a different concept Out&Back. Did you just run an internal ridgeline and then run lash-it to the corners from the ridge line in a X shape?

Yes, basicly I did a CRL attached the X lines with prussics to the RL and staked them out very tight.
Then I layed the tarp on top attaching all 6 tie outs with prussics.

The prussics allowed me to adjust for miminal sag with snow load but it should work for wind as well.
The amount of lash-it used to make the X is less than one would use for 4 side panel pullouts so there is a weight savings.

Interesting indeed. I like the ingenuity on this.

Thanks hope i did not spam up your report?

Would you say you had the 4 corners tensioned pretty tight? Would tighter help?
If all edges of the tarp had grosgrain could you get more tension without over stretching the material?

Sorry for all the questions this syl Argon has me pretty excited and you are leading the R&D.
For a slight weight penalty it offer so much more than cuben.
