After assembling a hammock setup that matched my budget, and thanks to all the helpful info available here, I went on a little solo trip to Western Colorado for 4 days.
I saw some amazing sights, and rode some wonderfully curvy roads.
My setup is simple, and inexpensive:
-Kelty Noah's Tarp 12 with paracord ridgeline
-Yukon 11' hammock w/ whoopies and 1" tree straps (DIY)
-Walmart sleeping pad
-Cheap woot special 15* mummy bag
The first night wasn't too cold, with temps around the high 30's/low 40's. I didn't sleep too well, mostly because I had trouble getting comfortable.
First nights camp:
The second night was colder (mid-30s), but is slept much better.
The third night was very cold, I think it was around 27 or 28*. I used my armored jacket and jacket liner for extra insulation. I slept quite warm, except for my nose. I couldn't keep it warm! Everything else was peachy.
I can see the appeal of a UQ. It would allow me to get comfortable more quickly. It will be on my short list.
It was a fun learning experience, and the verdict is: I'm hooked. Now if only I had a thread injector...
