I have both a blackbird with whoopie slings and an eno with slapstraps. I personally like the slap straps when I'm not backpacking. They do stretch, but I mean cmon, how hard is it to adjust it up one loop after an hour or so.

I personally think they are a good thing to have, it just depends on your application.

I have a pair of the atlas straps that I bought before I knew about the hammock forum cult. Now that I have drank the Kool-Aid I know better and use DIY with a pair of Dutch Strap Buckles.
Yah, I know what you mean by DIY straps. Hell I was looking on the web and found this. http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-...k-Tree-Straps/ This is probably one of the most simplest alternatives I just found for straps.

I guess I kind of went berserk on the Slap Strap... haha. But, I have a question about the whoopie slings. Do you have to do adjustments, like tapering before you use them as a suspension system?

Tapering is recommended for the construction of most spliced Amsteel products. It's not an adjustment but a method of construction.

In my experience it stretches within the first hour or so... which I usually spend when I first get to camp. Then you tighten them up, and by night time they are good to go. YMMV

Also, I use them mostly for recreational purposes.

Note that with the "straps" you are usually considering a Marlin Spike hitch and whoopie sling set up. When you use the ENO atlas Straps or Kammock's Python straps (or a rock climber's Daisy Chain) you are using a carabiner to clip into a fixed loop. In that case, the adjustments are like steps instead of a continual adjustment you can get with a whoopie sling. But I've found clipping into a fixed loop to be good enough (for now) and a lot easier than fussing with the constriction of a whoopie sling - especially with wet/cold hands. Maybe some day I'll come full circle and return to a line and double ring set up.

I bought a couple sets of the Atlas straps for my ENOs (before finding this forum) and they work great. But had I known, i would've just made my own and saves some money.
