The Whoopie Sling is being talked about recently, and is probably the lightest weight fully adjustable suspension. There are several variations of it. Also, have a look at Grizz's suspension primer videos (1, 2, 3).

the line/strap suspension is pretty light, you could just order that with a little extra line and you'd have most of what you needed for the whoopie sling susp, just would have to do the spliceing and make a toggle
the whoopie sling idea is cool, and I'm going to toy around with it myself and see how it works out in practice, but I don't see that it's going to be lighter than the BB line+webbing option, using the buntline hitch to tie it off.
Thumbnail analysis : imagine you use a tree hugger the same length as the one that comes with the BB, remove the ring, and create a Marlinspike hitch toggle using a (free-to-weight-budget) trail stick. That ring weighs 0.2 oz, at least the one I have does. Now 3mm Vectran (which is lighter still than the Amsteel on the BB) weighs in at 0.2 oz / yd, which means that if you lose the ring, as soon as you've added another yard of line for the whoopie sling you're at the break-even point and any more line adds weight. Maybe you can hit break-even with the UCR, but I'm not seeing it with the whoopie sling, it just needs more than a yard of extra cord at each end.
Conclusion : the BB stock line+webbing suspension is no heavier than a whoopie sling modification.
Now if you really wanted to drive the weight as low as you could on the BB, I think you'd take the suspension apart and put in some much lighter cord for the ridgeline---Amsteel is overkill, you could use LashIt instead, and then replace the Amsteel line from hammock to tree with Vectran.
You might even be able to do without a ridgeline altogether, but I'm not sure...
Now this won't buy you a lot of reduction, I don't have the numbers at hand but I can't imagine you'd gain more than 1 oz. But as a thought exercise...

Concur .... it is already a lightweight system ..... hammock, integrated net and all. I use cord right now and saved maybe 5-6 ounces.

I mentioned that my Blackbird weights 31 oz over on the Ultralight site and they attacked me. If you want to go ultralight, you need a cuben fiber poncho tarp, GG Thinlite torso pad, and a headnet for the buggies. Sub 10 oz for entire shelter.
It sounds like they need a dose of HYOH mentality.

i have switched out the rl's for 7/64" amsteel now. if the whoopie sling reduces the 50% break that a knot has, you could possibly use 7/64" for the whoopie lines too. probably not much lighter than the line/strap, but not much heavier which is pretty impressive considering the extra weight of the other adjustable suspension options
