8 year old daughter first wild hammocking

A one nighter in the Peak District national park - lovely weather - so no flysheets. So she woke me up to tell me the sun was rising. At 5am. Needless to say, we both went back to sleep. Owls and badgers in evidence, porridge for breakfast and a nice little hike in and out. Neither of us can wait to do it again!

After this trip I bought her a she-wee. In NATO green, of course!

Thanks for sharing the adventure. My granddaughters love to go camping with us.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

Good to see. I'm just about to buy my 8 year old her first hammock as well and take her to the Cairngorms. She loves tents and camping so hopefully she takes to the hammock well.

You get extra points for going without a tarp. I just don't trust the weather up here enough to go without...no matter how good it's looking at the time.Haha!

+1, I've only trusted the weather enough 2 times. A couple times I could've but there are often things falling out of the trees where I camp. Great feeling to wake up with no shelter and a great way to introduce the wee one to hammocking.

Ooh Cairgorms sounds like real adventure, we're less than ten miles from the city centre in these pics. And yeah, even here in the Peak District, I always take a tarp, but for a one nighter and a solid high pressure system in the NE, it was worth the risk!

Great tip! Will endeavour to remember the next time it snows.

I started the boy when we only had tents, he was 5. I didn't start camping for fun until I was 40 - always loved camping, but rarely got the kit together.

Really not far, a couple of klicks in and out. More time spent camping. She's good for 10k, just her dad is a bit portly and slow!

I''ll go tarpless whenever I can, but it's not often.

Thanks Breyman, yeah. We learn a lot about each other, too. Something about leaving architecture and the built environment behind is really liberating.

Thanks for all the positive vibes everyone, and apologies for not posting sooner!
