    WB vs Dutch's Cinch Buckles

I have a set of cinch buckles on my WB XLC that I love. It's so easy to setup and seems like zero stretching of the webbing. I'm using a whoopie sling and some stupid webbing on my DIY hammock. This weekend I fought quite a few times trying to get the hang right. The webbing would stretch badly. All in all, too much fiddle. I figured I'd buy a cinch buckle set from WB for my DIY Hammock.

The only complain I have with the WB cinch buckle is that it's a little hard to loosen them once they've been tightened down. Dutch's looks quite a bit different. Are they easier to open? The price is pretty much exactly the same and both are great vendors. Just wondering how to choose between the two.

I prefer the style Dutch sells and have often stated they are easier to release, but truth be told, it's really a toss up and personal preference. They both have to be tilted back to release.

I'm with gmcttr on this. Dutch's are easier to release. I sometimes have to fiddle with the WB ones.

I agree with gmcttr 100 % but my wife just got a ridge runner and its the first time that i have ever used the WB style cinch buckles, i have allways used the ones like Dutch sells and have become very used to them, i even have a few pair that i picked up from readystraps.com,that came with the quick draws that he sells and the buckles come in black as well, .
That being said, i did not mind the wb style buckle but i think the key to it is whatever style you choose you use the same ones on all your hammocks, this way you will get used to it and using them will become second nature'so to speak'

Dutch and ReadyStrap sell the same variation of cinch buckles that I use on most of my hammocks. Very easy to use but they do weigh more.. I agree the BB cinch buckle variation is a little harder to work with but in the 4 years I have been using BB's I have yet to change over. If the Amsteel suspension to the buckles on the BB's gets to the point where I need to replace, then I will change it out. Until then I am leaving my BB's as it.

    The webbing would stretch badly
Are you using nylon which is known to stretch or polyester webbing which does not ? Also some brands of polyester webbing while do not stretch, are very slick and required a slippery half hitch or some other type back up knot to keep the webbing from slipping thru the buckles when a load is placed on it.

I have found that a "hard" to the feel webbing like the type used on BlackBirds holds up much better the very "soft" to the feel webbing I have gotten from some other places. The softer webbing still works, just have to replace it more frequently as it tends to wear and tear much easier.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

I've never had an issue with the WB buckles but I can see how some find it hard if you don't use a technique. As gmcttr said both need to be tilted to loosen. I prefer the Dutch ones because they are one piece instead of two.

I like that I don't have to tie a back-up knot on the WB buckles, unlike regular cinch buckles.

A backup knot is not needed for cinch buckles.

I took the WB off immediately after the first time I used them and replaced with Dutch as on my other hammocks. WB were super inconvenient to loosen up and the Dutch CB I can angle back and loosen with one hand.

I decided to start a new thread to discuss stretch in the straps rather than hijack this one.
