Has anyone ever made a hammock from Rayon fabric or have thoughts on its suitability
for DIY gear if one "hypothetically" found some ripstop that claimed to be Rayon?

It needn't be ripstop. Rayon is an interesting fabric. It is synthetic from natural fibers. Cellulose, a plant product, is somehow spun into threads and woven into fabric. It is highly prized in garments for soft and silk like texture andd feel. It is washable, but care must be taken to wash the entire fabric to the same degree as uneven water saturation will cause watermarks when it dries. In so far as strength, I would think that would depend on weight and thread size. It may not be as strong as nylon or polyester but I would think it should have some characteristics of cotton or silk. I would be wary of using it in direct sunlight as cellulose has a very high acid content and sun exposure intensifies that acid reaction causing rapid deterioration. You know how newsprint turns yellow and brittle when exposed to the sun? Cellulose is largely responsible for that condition.
