Not to interrupt the trip planning, but Tom (I mean Grandpa) we're going to need pictures of the baby in the DIY hammock bassinet!

What time are you arriving at Juniper? I may be up for a hike in from there if someone where to take us (me and firefly1024) there from Pat's Island.

I will have room for 3 cosy riders in the back seat of my truck. It's a 3 door. We are hiking out to pat's island Sunday whenever. O-Boy has one of those spots already.

I am hoping to make it to camp by about 10 Saturday morning. If there are any interesting day hikes planned that day, please wait for me!

Thanks. I am also parking at Pat's Island. I was talking about joining Oboy for the hike in from Juniper if firefly1024 and I could get a ride to Juniper. If not, we will hike in Friday from Pat's Island starting about 10~11am.

WaffleBox, the hike in from Pat's Island parking lot is between 45min to 1 1/2 hours. Are you arriving at camp at about 10 am or at the parking lot?

The hike to Silver Glen Springs(North from camp) shares the FT hike in(from Pat's Island) for most of the way before turning East to the Springs. If going to Juniper Springs, then it's going South from camp.

Hey Folks! Been lurking HF for a little bit and this is my first post. I am fairly new to backpacking, and have been on a few overnight trips. I couldn't get a good night's sleep in my tent so I am switching to a hammock! I have one on order, but it hasn't shipped yet, so this meetup isn't in the cards for me. I have a 3 day trip planned from Clearwater Lake up to Juniper Springs whenever it arrives, maybe later this month.

I haven't been outdoors overnight in July before though, so I'm a little apprehensive. I figured of all the places to ask, this would be it. So, what can I expect out there? I know it's going to be hot, and humid, and it's going to rain. And I've backpacked through this part of the FT before. My real concern is the mosquitoes. Are they out in force? Will I get bitten up through my hammock? Should I douse all my possessions in permethrin? (I've heard a lot of offhand, anecdotal remarks about its toxicity to humans/cats, and whether that applies when it's wet/dry, but haven't seen any authoritative source) And besides that, any advice for a beginner on his first hang out in the crazy Florida summer?

    Thanks!
