    Tarp tie out ideas please?

Hi I just got a superfly so have been thinking of how to rig it out , I like the tie outs with the shock cord on them but I cant seem to find any tutorials on how to do them (any links welcome thank you) I was also surprised that the tarp ridge does not have any loops or webbing in the middle etc so there is the two end ones with the rings only?is there any pics or videos on how to on this ,thanks again.

The common method of supporting the tarp ridgeline is just the two rings, one at each end of the ridgeline.

An easy method of self-tensioned tieouts is to use a short piece of 1/8" shockcord. Either tie a piece into the tie-out line or put a loop of it on the tarp tieout point and attach your line to the loop.

I am getting close to making tensioners myself. The link above it seems is the definitive resource. However, I really grasped the method of making them from Shug's new video posted above. Video just makes it easier for me to learn I suppose, especially since I'm not well versed in knots.

As for the ridgeline, as stated above what you're seeing is standard. Most say it's all you need, but you could also throw the tarp over a continuous ridgeline for structure.

I just attached a loop of shock cord on the tarp tie outs and then attached the lines to the shock cord loop. Seems to work good.

What does the guy who designed the Superfly think about it?

Here is a thread discussing a letter from Brandon the owner of Warbonnet Outdoors, basically what he thinks about how some people misuse inadequate shock cord (my words not his). If you use thin shock cord you are probably just wasting your time. A very simple continuous ridgeline is probably the best for along the top, but minor modifications with some sort of bungee/shock cord like material may be worth while if done well. My conclusion is test it out and think it thru. There is no magic formula that works for all situations. Sometimes I use short straps on the trees and loop the CRL thru them and do not wrap the CRL around the trees. Sometimes I use the natural give and bend of a sapling or shrub to prevent a guy line tie out from flapping or ripping in strong wind, never a long one or it could cause a major rip. Just like I never hang up high between two thin trees that may swing apart in a strong wind. Seen people's hammocks and tarps get pulled apart in strong winds. They were surprised. Apparently they had never watched a forest in a major rainstorm, picked a poor vantage point for their first. SBS and very wet… LOL
