I've actually thought about using either whoopie slings or ASRLs as the tarp lines. larks head one end either around the tie out, and the other around the stake. This allows adjustment for tension, and removes any hardware like line tensioners. Haven't tried it yet, but i"m going an a hang at the end of the month and will experiment then.

I've seen quite a few people use UCRs, you might try those as well. Let us know about your experiences.

I've never considered UCRs or whoopies for my guylines because none of the arguments for them are compelling. Are they easier than a marlin spike hitch? I doubt it. Easier to use when it's cold? I'm not convinced.

Some argue that you can easily adjust your guylines from under the tarp - another argument I don't understand. You can't stake out a tarp from under the tarp (but it would be fun to watch someone try). Once I've staked out my tarp I rarely adjust it (I have a no-stretch CF tarp) so I'll just stick with the MSH.

I certainly don't use them on my CF tarp. I just use 1.75 mm Zing-it guy lines and ridgeline.
I just stake it out. Have not had any issues with it.

In Colorado we get wind so strong the tree's can flex 3-4 inches. This can really put some stress on a tarp RL so to protect my pricy
cuben I use lashit for the CRL and attack the tarp RL with prussics. The the worst that can happen is the RL breaks with the tree movement.
I do nothing special on the 4 corner tieouts.

I also do this on any tarp with Grosgrain sewn into the RL since it won't stretch either.

We have bigger trees in Tennessee. I don't worry to much about tree flex, at the ridgeline.

I think I read a post the other day from Opie and he said the prusiks would slip at about 30 lbs. pressure so that's some protection.

I'm sure it depends on the number of wraps and materials you select. Lash-it is pretty darn slippery stuff esp when wet.
On my lashit RL I had to use some of that blue, white. and black braided stuff with 8 wraps.
I also tried the kimel(sp?) however it held about the same.
I'll have to do a pull test that sounds fun. I have a fish scale that goes to 50# I give it a try.

Hea Tennessee, I don't think your pines are any bigger than mine.
But you sure don't get the winds I have to deal with except during a tornado.

I use 1.75 mm zing it with micro line locks for the corner ties outs. This allows me to form a loop for the stake. It also allows me to position a stake where it goes into the ground easily and holds firm as well. And I can adjust the tension on the guy line.
