    Short Incubator or Custom Phoenix

I have a Jarbidge that I am happy with in the 50 F plus range. I'm pondering a 20F underquilt for those temps below 50F. Here's my question for your enlightening feedback?
    1. Do I order the short (73") incubator or
    2. Do I order a custom 66" phoenix?

I'm only 5'8 and the jarbidge is almost perfect length. I'm thinking with the 66" phoenix I could get away with no supplemental pad.

Keep in mind that you don't get all of the "flat measured length" when installed on the hammock. I'm a couple of inches taller and I use the short, which fits me from my shoulders to my heels. My guess is that if you don't want to use a footpad, that's the way you should go.

the answer is..... are you weight consious??? I am 5'2", and I prefer the short incubator. Less adjustments because it's bigger, but still EXTREMELY light. I can't even imagine how light the phoenix is.

I think the Jarbidge is around 58" and I position it so that it's a the top of my shoulders. The bottom is right at my feet so I think the extra 8" would cover to my feet.

I like short. Takes less space in the backpack.

Ditto...I take a short (3/4) length UQ. Rarely use my FL UQ
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

i wanted a full length UQ, since i didn't want to have to worry, plus I sleep a little cold. however, i'm 6'0" and went with the short incubator, and i think it's enough coverage. if you consider a short incubator is 73", there are other manufacturers who have 75" full length UQ listed as their "standard" or "long", so just a 2" difference.

Thanks to all. I'll probably go with a standard phoenix to save pack space. Space is a premium especially for us hillbillies. Always taking too much stuff into the woods.

I've recently received a custom extra-long phoenix and love it, just be sure to let Adam know if you're more torso/legs/neither so he can place the snug portion below your hips accordingly.
It is a very alert, active sheep, with a stylish, lively carriage.

I use a Juki & Pfaffs w/ assorted attachments, and have serviced lots of vintage machines. Any questions?

6 ft 230 here. Used all different lengths UQ. I am also weight conscions and carry the Pincubator (covers from shoulders to just below heels) . Even though it's lighter and saves space carrying a shorty UQ like the Phoenix...if it's 20 and below I just sleep so much better with a longer UQ that for my hike it's worth the extra weight and space. So a lot of it has to do with comfort. It took me buying and selling three HG 20 UQ before I decided on the one I have now and decided to keep
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
