    IL>R2RT Southern Illinois

A buddy and I are planning a 4d/3n backpacking/camping trip this fall on the R2RT. We have never overnight backpacked before. However, we are seasoned day hikers.

The thought is to drive two cars down using one as a shuttle. Parking one at Pharaoh's Camp Ground with our 'car' camping gear. Then driving to E-Town park and start the trail; then return to retrieve the E-Town car once we get to PCG.

We would hike from E-Town to GoG camping inbetween one night then 'car' camp the remaining long weekend at Pharaoh's Camp Ground. But PCG doesn't have showers. Not that that is a deal breaker (actually irrelevant) just we typically car camp at Rend Lake for the same length and RL has showers.

For us this backpacking trip may be our only one for a long while. As we both are married and have very young children and I know life will get in the way as the kiddos get older.

For those of you that have hiked the entire R2RT (section or thru hiked), would this section I have proposed be a good option or would you hike a different section considering?

From Etown to Garden of Gods is pretty dull in my opinion. Prolly be better hiking and scenery wise to start at GOG and hike to say Eddyville. Maybe park a car at the private camp there in Eddyville....the name has slipped my mind at the moment. Its a horse camp but the will cater to hikers as well.

    Thanks.

I have heard that about Etown to GoG too. Thats why I was putting feelers out there for the ones that know the trail better.

Anybody know if the Little Lusk Creek campground allows tent campers?

Derekd1 - was this the one you were thinking of?
