Ambulo tua ambulo.
I think this is the story from about a year ago? I remember it being talked about on this site.
30 days in juvy. I know it was a mistake, but it was a big mistake. He also has to take a 4 hour hunter safety course though. That's putting the horse before the cart.

In my world there would be no reason for the hunter safety training. He would never be allowed to hunt again. Probably never be allowed to own a gun again. Felons usually can not legally own firearms.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Bobbin Tension - A Personal Viewpoint
I hike and camp in a lot of areas that permit hunting (ie, National Forests). Always have on blaze orange during the hunting seasons. It may not be stealth, but it's better than dead.

Blaze orange is a wonderful way to stay safe. I had a deer in my scope once and even in the excitement I saw Blaze orange in the distance so I held my fire of course. The orange was a rachet strap on somebodys portable stand that was empty but that small amount of orange was enough to see from a long ways off.
In most hunting accidents hunters think they are shooting at game. So wear blaze orange because game doesn't. Don't forget to wear a hat because when you come over a rise your head is the first thing someone will see.
Hunters, be 100% sure of what your shooting at! Know whats behind the animal to. Check your backstop. It's better to pass up an unsure shot than to take a bad shot in haste. Stories like this are tragic for everyone involved and even sadder because they are very preventable.

Not even wearing blaze orange is a fool proof plan for staying safe during hunting season.
There are reports on record of people in blaze orange being shot...they were mistakenly identified as game. I don't understand how someone could make that kind of mistake, but it does happen.
The problem (as I see it) is ill-trained hunters not taking their time and being absolutely positive of their target before squeezing off a round, or checking what's behind the target. Maybe it's a case of "Buck Fever", or just plain old ignorance.
tragic, truly tragic...
wear orange during hunting season, but when your number is pulled...it is time.
