DIY UQ for my wife (Birthday present)

I decided on a whim to make my wife an underquilt for her birthday this year. I expect it to be a summer only quilt. I used 2 pieces of crib sized batting, one 1/2" and one 1/4". The material is inexpensive static free polyester lining from walmart. The finished dimensions are about 40x55.

To put it together, I layered the side channels (3" grosgrain! - it was what I had) and three layers of material along with the batting such that it was inside out, then sewed three of the sides and turned it right side out. I added 1 1/2" grosgrain for the end channels and ran paracord through them. Shock cord goes through the side channels and mini S-biners to attach to the hammock suspension.

We have three sons, so there isn't a lot of pink in the house...

I also made a stuff sack out of the same material and some grosgrain and paracord.

Very nice. I liked the idea of the S-biner to connect the side channels to the hammock suspension.

I'm going to make one for myself like this. I'm going to include a layer of emergency mylar blanket beneath the batting, though. Wish me luck

Thanks for the replies. The UQ I made for myself doesn't look quite as nice. I made them in stages - started mine first, learned a few things, then made hers, then finished mine. One of the things I learned was to use LOTS of pins. I pinned along each channel to sew on hers (all at once, before I sewed any of the channels) then sewed over the pins - works a lot better that way and you can follow the pins. As far as experience, I did some sewing as a kid with my mom and then last year I hemmed a diy hammock and made some stuff sacks.

About that stuff sack - I found it a LOT easier for me to add a grosgrain channel than to try to fold the sack material to leave an opening for the cord to exit the channel. I also like the black channel offsetting the pink...
