I decided on a whim to make my wife an underquilt for her birthday this year. I expect it to be a summer only quilt. I used 2 pieces of crib sized batting, one 1/2" and one 1/4". The material is inexpensive static free polyester lining from walmart. The finished dimensions are about 40x55.
To put it together, I layered the side channels (3" grosgrain! - it was what I had) and three layers of material along with the batting such that it was inside out, then sewed three of the sides and turned it right side out. I added 1 1/2" grosgrain for the end channels and ran paracord through them. Shock cord goes through the side channels and mini S-biners to attach to the hammock suspension.
We have three sons, so there isn't a lot of pink in the house...

I also made a stuff sack out of the same material and some grosgrain and paracord.
