    Wink Bought my first hammock!

So I went into ****'s today and they happened to have the Eagles Nest Outfitters DoubleNest on sale for $59.99. Since I had a $10 off coupon with me I couldn't pass it up for $49.99. While the Warbonnet Blackbird is what I really want, I figured this will give me a chance to see what this hammock stuff is all about before I drop hundreds on two hammocks for the wife and I. Now out to the garage I go for some strapping material to make a suspension system...

    Congrats!

My first hammock was the Wally World $25 cheapie Travel Hammock (can't even remember the name and the label has since worn off of the stuff-sack and I cut the tags a while ago). I hung it with doubled-up Paracord (single paracord ridgeline) and some old ratchet-straps that I cut and put a Bowline in the end and a marlin spike/toggle setup. I hung an old tarp I had over some more paracord and had myself a fairly nice hammock setup.

That paracord stretched so much I had to adjust the marlin spike like 4 or 5 times that first night, but I knew I was hooked. I think other than the $25 hammock, I was out exactly 0 dollars (as I had a ton of paracord laying around). It got down to like 38 the first night I slept in it and all I had was a fleece blanket and a green military sleeping bag so I got a little chilled, but other than that, I had a blast and slept well better than I did in my tent with a sleeping pad the night before.

Good choice. Save up to buy the Blackbird and retire your eno to the back yard. Love my Blackbird Xlc. Also have a grand trunk I use in the yard and day hikes.

Yup. You could have found a cheaper hobby but, not one this much fun.

    You aren't kidding

    2 Warbonnet XLC Hammocks $400
    2 Underquilts about $600
    1 Tarp $150

    Ouch! $1150
