I am planning a section hike on the Ouachita Trail from Talimina State Park to Hwy 259.
Has anyone here hiked this section in the last year?
My brother & I take an annual trip together and this is fairly close for both of us.
We are planning on taking 3 days to do the 30 miles. This should give us plenty of time to enjoy the trail.
I need info on parking & trail conditions.

My cousin and I just hiked Horsethief Springs loop a month or so ago, but I can say that I don't think they've burned the top of the mountain in a while (lots of under-brush - Winding Stair campground is pretty grown-over with brush). They did burn the north side of Holson Valley Road (including all of the Cedar lake area) less than a year ago, so hopefully they will get to the Talimena area soon.
The trails at the top (on the Ouachita) were rocky and loose in the Horsethief springs area but the facilities and parking were great. I think there are two rangers in the area that might be helpful with info - one in the Talihena station and the one near Hodgen.
I might be interested in going.
i havent hiked it but the trail report at ( friends of the Quachita trail .org ) has information about trail conditions. i been wanting to hike this trail for over a year. its about 130 miles from where i live. might try and make it
