Just wanted to post a short review of the Gear Sling that Jared from Simply Light Designs made up for me.
As a kayaker I mostly just string my drybags from a tarp ridgeline, but I wanted a way to be able to sort through my stuff without having to open and reseal each individual bag whenever I needed to grab something.
Ordering the custom gear sling was a straightforward process with Jared. I gave him a basic description of what I thought I wanted and he made a couple of suggestions and badda bing, badda boom...It was done. Turn around time from initial contact to shipping couldn’t have been more than two days. I’m thoroughly impressed with the fantastic service from SLD.
The Gear sling arrived in it’s own stuff sack, complete with Amsteel Continuous loops for attachment to your preferred choice of suspension. I use Prusik loops with soft shackles to attach it to a tarp ridge line (all learned right here on the Hammock Forum, thank you very much all).
The stuff sack has a button hole sewn into one end that allows one of the continuous loops to be pulled through.

The gear sling can then be deployed easily with no risk of losing the stuff sack. The business end has a draw-string closure with a cord lock to keep it shut and for comparisons sake, the whole thing fits into a Solo cup.

The gear sling is made from a 5’ piece of 1.1 oz. rip stop and has a full length zipper that runs end to end. Two zipper pulls allow the sling to be opened or closed anywhere along it’s length.

Simply Light Designs has done some really clever work on the closing system. At each end of the zipper two snaps bring the fabric over the zipper, which gives a certain measure of water protection , as well as keeping creepy crawlers and small critters out of the sling.

However, if you release the snaps the zippers can be completely separated which allows the sling to act as a hammock chair (or maybe even a small child’s hammock).

Workmanship on the sling is first rate; triple stitched end loops, double stitched zippers, perfect amsteel loops. I don’t pretend to understand how hard it is to achieve this level of craftsmanship, but it’s certainly beyond my skill. As far as capacity goes, it easily fits everything I can carry in my kayak and then some.

I typically carry about 75 -85 lbs of gear (no, I don’t travel light).
Now I have somewhere to store everything off the ground and easy to access. It even matches my new Simply Light Designs Stream Liner DL hammock. IMGP0771.jpg
