Poncho As A Uq W/p Protector

After seeing a post on HF about using a poncho as a water proof protector for an under quilt , I thought what a simple great idea !!!
I new I had a poncho somwhere in the house .
So all I needed was some line and 2 cord locks and 1/2 an hour of my time , and bingo , it was done .

Here are some pics of it in place on my BLACKBIRD .
And offcourse its in CAMMO .

watch out for breathability, i think folks are using the dri ducks poncho which is breathable, if your poncho isn't and you are putting off lots of water vapor, it might go into the quilt and not be able to esacpe the other side (because of the poncho) this "could" cause moisture build up in the insulation. just something to watch out for/check

    HI BRANDON -

I see what you are saying .
I know in my pictures show the poncho is pulled up tight against the under quilt but , I could ease it off a little say around 2 inch gap all the way around the UQ for air ventilation ,
The main reason to use the poncho is that it will keep the rain off the under quilt in realy bad weather .
Also I have a poncho just to wear aswell over me and my pack .

it looks like I have the same poncho, how did you attach the cord and locks? how are you hanging it? would like to use as light weight under quilt with the liner which I also have.

    HI plowhorse -
Have a look at this thred .

    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...t=poncho+cover

Remember to have enough air ventilation between your under quilt and the poncho to minimize condensation on your under quilt .
Also you are useing it as a wind and rain sheild .

Thanks for the link. I knew I had seen it done before just couldn't remember how. I plan on using it as a weathershield mostly, but I also have a liner that I can put in mine for use as underquilt. I have used the liner down to about 45* in the hammock, and had no cold spots, so it should work.
