Cool Visiting Myrtle Beach - Can somebody nearby loan me a hammock stand for the beach?!?!

    Hey everybody,

As I stated, I am travelling to Myrtle Beach next week and desperately want to take my hammock and hang on the beach. Does anybody feel generous enough to loan me a portable stand like a TurtleDog for the week? I promise to take good care of it!

Or does anybody want to suggest a foolproof method for hanging from poles on the beach? I know there has been a lot of discussion on this topic...personal experience with the suggestion is requested!

    Thanks! Happy Hammocking!

The beach is really crowded this time of year. Might be more hassle than its worth. Plus myrtle has weird laws now against tents and shelters on the beach.

Our area is uncrowded...and apparently the prohibition is against sun shelters only

Have lots of fun on your vacation. Hope someone can help you out since hanging at the beach does sound like a dream come true. However, if you end up trying it, make sure to setup at the very back of the beach or you will get hassled for sure.

I am the kind that reads the rules, and I still got asked to move when I set up a simple low beach chair with a umbrella attached in between two clumps of hotel chairs/umbrellas/lifeguard chairs nowhere near any of them. I was in line with them as the rules require, but they try to do all they can to make money with those chairs. Another time I tried just the low beach chair way, way down in front of the chair line which would seem to be o.k. per rules but even that was called an "obstruction". I've given up doing anything other than lying on a towel.

My advise is to hang with one end (foot or head) into the prevailing wind. Also make sure you use a tarp with doors or make Grizz beak clones.

This is so you can have the wind split to go on both sides of you instead of having the brunt of the wind hit an entire tarp side. That's like hitting a brick wall on the beach with nothing to slow the wind.

With the tarp end closed into the wind, it's like a knife edge cutting into the wind. You may need to use sand/snow bags(little parachutes) buried into the sand to keep them in place. If there is no wind, prepare for it anyways because it will eventualy come.

Get plenty of pics for us. Have fun.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Wonderful! Glad you managed to work it out. Next challenge: gettting sand out of gear.
