A Trip of Firsts - a Trial run

Looks like a fun adventure. Awesome on the first solo trip! Looking forward to getting out for a hang with you and now that you mention it, let's just set a group hang there soon unless the other local folks come up with something better. For a meet and greet a short hike may be perfect and 10 minutes is definitely short. More time for hanging around. Now to avoid hijacking this thread from its awesome trip report go to https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...g(1st-annual-) for the group hang post.

Excellent report! I love Dehoja's continuous tarp ridgeline too. I'm sticking with it. Also, I pack all my quilts with the hammock, even the pillow and bugnet. Hang the suspension and everything is setup and ready to go. Yeah, judging the right amount of water for re-hydration takes practice. Its always less water than I think. Continue having fun with you hammock!

Excellent trip report! The CRL is the way to go. Also, too many times I have forgotten to make sure the foot end is a little bit higher before retiring for the night. Does make a huge difference.

Yes! Nice report. I'm glad more ppl are dehydrating their own food. I did it for the first time this last hike and loved the results. So the Freezer bag thing? Do you just put the bag with the food and water in a pot of water and boil it up? I hate cleaning up afterwards too. I also couldn't get the link to your sawyer filtration system to work. I have one and was wondering about a better way to use it.

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

I boiled my water in my pot, poured it into the bag with the dried food already in there. I then removed most of the air, sealed up the bag, and put in back into the pot, which had cooled enough by then to not melt any plastic. The whole pot and lid were then placed in the cozy I made, and sat for about 10 min.
    Hope that helps.

Also, I hope ziplocs don't put out anything toxic at that temperature.

Not sure why the filter link didn't work ... Try this link - it's to my photo's on the build ... Should get the basic point across.
Or you can find the link in my profile under 'recently posted threads' ... go back to this date: 10-05-2013, 06:32

Or try this LINK - it's for the entire thread ... my portion is on the second page.

I really enjoyed your report and reviews on your gear. Very helpful. Mostly makes me want to get back to that level of detail on my stuff. Particularly impressed with the way you handled several things by trying another way. Brilliant to be prepared for some onsite splicing! All around great report. Thanks for taking the time to share details.
