BB modified entrance

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if the hammock feels uncomfortable or claustrophobic at all, since you can only enter and exit from the 1 side. Has anyone done any mods to be able to enter and exit from either side in case of emergency? I'm used to completely open hammocks, but of course a bug net is essential, so just wondering if there's any way around it.

I don't find them claustrophobic at all. YMMV

What kind of emergency do you envision that would be helped by exiting on the other side?

No feeling of claustrophobia at all for me. The BB is very roomy inside. Of course, if there was a REAL emergency (life or death), the bug net won't last long against a knife.

The BB is one of the more roomier hammocks I have been in.

My wife doesn't care to camp, so I finally took her camping this last weekend and I let her use the BlackBird and she amitted it was the most Comfortable sleep she's had, BUT the noisy critters woke her up too much...

Sometimes I sleep with the bugnet flipped back. No issues getting out in a hurry... I remember where I left the zipper tabs pretty easy, usually even with my shoulder. Not a problem to get out other than being so comfortable I just don't want to get up in the morning.

No more claustrophobic than a tent or camper. And most of those only have one exit.

Are we being honest on the claustrophobic issue? The reality is almost any hammock with bug netting is a pretty confined space (as are most small backpacking tents). Most of us don't mind this and may even find it to be snug and comforting but if you're prone to claustrophobia, it might not be the best place to be.

I'm claustrophobic. It's why I moved out of tents. Being able to sit up and look out without opening the shelter makes a huge difference. So far I have not had to deal with anything other than wind gusts (can leave one side open and get decent protection) and rain without wind gusts (open tarp works fine and provides ventilation).

Put me in a tent, on the ground, and the lack of sleep combined with the closed in space results in a groggy freakout in the morning.

First time I ever used a mummy bag I freaked. Tried it in my den in advance of a winter camping trip. Zipped it up and then suddenly panicked. Yanked at the zipper so hard that the fabric pull tab came off, which didn't help the panic. It was a friends very narrow bag. I now stick with roomier mummies.
