    Did someone say Whippoorwill ??
This little fella was hanging with us by the campfire.
And yep, the bats were dive bombing the fire chasing the bugs.

My Swedish Torch or Canadian Candle effort. Think I'll setup a couple at the next hang.

Yeah, I heard you guys talking about that, even over the loud as heck whippoorwills. I use oak and start them up with a little fat wood. The one in the video had a little too much fat wood and a decent breeze going. They are easy to cook on. I'll set one up for cooking hamburgers and hot dogs, faster than waiting on a whole fire in the ring to get going.

They go a long time, a heck of a lot longer than if you laid them down and allowed the fire to burn from all sides.
Never clocked it but maybe I will if temps dip down into the 50's around here.

My very first hang and it was awesome! It was great meeting everyone and look forward to the next shab'hang'. I feel bad we couldn't rescue Mo and his swamp buggy. He got stuck less than 1.5 miles from the campground and there was plenty of recovery gear at Batona. Here is a link to more pics of the trip.....https://www.flickr.com/photos/84601539@N08/
