The ones I bought from the dollar store were really thin and cheap, the stitching on the top channel is all frayed, and they feel like they might rip too easily.

The same thing from Walmart is only a few dollars more - you can find them in the aisle next to the plastic laundry baskets - and is much more heavy duty (comparably). Makes me feel a little better about keeping such an expensive piece of gear in them. Maybe it's just psychological … but an extra $2 is worth the peace of mind, at least to me.

    YMMV

Pillow case from a trashed set of bedding has always been my go to. Thrift store instead of Walmart. Or just the adorable partner to not throw the pillowcases away when the bedding gets tossed.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Another option that costs a little bit more, is to get an underbed storage compartment (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Rubbermaid...Specifications) I have a pair of plastic sterlite containers that slide under a queen sized bed and hold a couple of UQs and TQs.

I wouldn't put high quality down products in plastic for more than a few days. They don't breath or have any heat exchange attributes. Nope... loose fabric bags for me.

To store my sleeping bags and TQs and UQs I have and have used a combination of old sail bags ( use to work at a Marina ), large laundry bags ( cotton and mesh ) and a hammock that split in half and resewed into two large storage bags.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

I have mine stored with the top of the plastic bag open in the basement. The temp doesn't really fluctuate much at all down there. Are they OK in plastic in this case?

The ones I get at the dollar store by me are not frayed and are the same ones they have at Walmart,
no need to spend any more at Walmart for the same thing. The only purpose they serve is to
contain the quilts and let them breath. These are also exactly the same as the ones UGQ
    ships with their quilts.

Suit bags, hang on hangers - three for a few bucks at Target. (I avoid Walmart like the plague. I rarely shop at Target, either.) Breathable, dust proof.

I have my good quilts in a laundry bag and a body - pillow case (in this I cut a hole in the seam where it's folded at the top hem and slid a cord through for closure)
I have a third cheaper down bag coleman I believe that's stored in plastic and mesh bag that a down comforter was purchased in. I assume it's okay since it breaths and was provided for a down product.

vgmohag, I would think it's okay on the plastic bag as long as its open completely and is very well dried before being stored. Could probably still be on the lookout for a cotton sack of some kind.
